on February 15 and 16, 2023 an international conference on Climate Smart Agriculture has been held in PSTU. The first day was officially opened by Prof. Alamgir Kabir from PSTU and Prof. dr. Fulco Ludwig of WUR. Special guests spoke during the inaugural part; Chief Guest Muhammed Alamgir of University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, Special guest Thijs Woudstra of Deputy Head of Mission Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bangladesh and Matthijs Landsmeer of Nuffic. During the 2-day conference inspiring keynote speakers shared their knowledge and experience about CSA. Keynote speakers who contributed were: Dr. Wais Kabir, Prof. Fulco Ludwig, Dr. Salma Begum and Dr. M.G. Mostafa Amin. On the second day we saw many interesting presentations from researchers and specialists about Salinity and CIS.

During the conference days the WSG group and PSTU visited the CSA Department together. Construction is in full swing.

 

A Farmer Fieldday was organised by Lal Teer Seed, supported bij Salt Doctors, at the Fieldlocation near Bagerhat. 100 farmers were invited. The location shows a variety of crops, on High Salinity fields or Low Salinity fields. During the Farmer Fieldday there were interesting presentations about the research of Syful Islam of Lal Teer Seed and Arjen de Vos of Salt Doctors.

A monitoring team visited the RECSA-PSTU project on December 6, 2022 to review the progress of the project and participate in a meeting. The team visited CSA building construction site and project activities. After visiting they attend a meeting. At the beginning of the meeting the Project Director Prof. Dr. Md. Alamgir Kabir presented all the activities of the project in the meeting. Then the researchers presented their research work one by one.

Climate Smart Agriculture for a Resilient Coastal Bangladesh (RECSA) project was organize a training on “Climate change impacts on water and food systems and their adaptation” at Patuakhali Science and Technology University on 21-23 March 2022. Prof. Dr. Swadesh Chandra Samanta, Honorable Vice-Chancellor, PSTU adorned the chair of chief guest at the opening of the training programme. Prof. Mohammad Ali, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and Prof. Dr. Md. Fazlul Hoque, Dean, Postgraduate Studies (PGS) was presented here as a Special Guests. Prof. Dr. Fulco Ludwig, Project Director, WUR , was presented as keynote speaker at the opening session of the training program.

Prof. Dr. Md. Alamgir Kabir, Project Director, PSTU was preside over the training workshop. Certificates are distributed among the participants on successful completion of the three days training. The Workshop was conducted by Prof. Dr. Md. Ektear Uddin, Project Coordinator of RECSA.

Climate Smart Agriculture for a Resilient Coastal Bangladesh project has organized a workshop on “Curriculum Improvement through Inclusion of IT for proposed MS course in Climate Smart Agriculture” at Patuakhali Science and Technology University on 12th September 2022.

Honorable Vice-Chancellor of PSTU Prof. Dr. Swadesh Chandra Samanta was present as the chief guest. Professor Mohammad Ali, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, PSTU and Professor Dr. Md. Fazlul Haque, Dean, Postgraduate Studies (PGS) was present there as Special Guest.

Prof. Dr. Alamgir Kabir, Project Director, RECSA presided over the workshop. The Workshop was conducted by Prof. Dr. Md. Ektear Uddin, Project Coordinator of RECSA.

The CSA bangla conference will be held on February 15,16 and 17, 2023 at the PSTU. The program will appear as soon as it is known.

Great news: university grants commission has given preliminary approval at the CSA department. We are currently working hard to meet all the conditions. 

In a 2-week training course at the WUR , 6 postdocs gained a lot of knowledge about CSA practices and the education about this. The aim is to translate the acquired knowledge into education appropriate to PSTU. The post-docs who participated in this are: Gopal Saha, Shariful Islam, Shah Md. Asraful Islam, Khadiza Khatun, Shaikh Abdullah Al Mamun Hossain and  Md. Masudur Rahman.

PSTU and WUR have worked together fruitfully in the NUFFIC project Climate-smart agriculture for a resilient coast of Bangladesh. As a result, PSTU and WUR intend to continue and strengthen their collaboration. To record this, an MoU was signed during PSTU’s visit to WUR. PSTU was represented by Prof. Alamgir Kabir, Prof. Ektear Uddin and Prof. dr. Md. Fazlul Hoque. From the WUR there were, among others, Prof. Fulco Ludwig, Carolien Kroeze and Bram Vos.
